If someone asked to buy your car for cheap, would you pay to have it detailed before selling it? If you did, would you still sell it for the same price?
State lawmakers are considering Senate Bill 1000, which would give $10 million to Bay Area Hospital in Coos Bay with no strings attached. Why is that concerning? Because the Bay Area Hospital is about to be sold off to private equity company Quorum Health, and the $10 million would arrive after the anticipated sale and lease, which means that those tax dollars would just be subsidizing an already-sweetheart deal for the Tennessee company.
We can save Bay Area Hospital with a Shared Responsibility Plan, that uses both local and state resources to keep the hospital in public hands. SB 1000 is a poorly-thought-out idea that enriches out of state speculators at the expense of hardworking Oregonians!
Use this form to send testimony in opposition to SB 1000 to the Senate Healthcare Committee and ask them to make the smart move.
